A Weekend Itinerary for 15+ People Visiting Quimbaya & Salento
Planning for a group this size mostly comes down to pacing — building in enough flexibility that nobody feels rushed, and enough optional activities that people can opt in or out without splitting the whole trip apart. Here's a weekend that's worked well for groups in the 15-person range.
Friday: arrival
Stop in Quimbaya on the way in for groceries and anything else the group needs for the weekend — most houses in the surrounding countryside are remote enough that this is worth doing before you arrive, not after. Spend the evening around the pool and get everyone settled; don't plan anything else for day one.
Saturday: Cocora + Salento
Head out early — by 7am if you can manage it with a group this size — for the short palm route in Valle de Cocora (1–3 km, about 1–2.5 hours), which works for essentially everyone regardless of fitness level. From there, Salento is close by for lunch and an afternoon walking the town. Anyone who wants more can add the full Cocora loop as a separate, opt-in morning instead.
Sunday: Filandia + departure
A lighter final day: the free mirador in Filandia for a last view of the valley, plus the botanical garden if anyone wants a slower morning before heading to the airport or back to Bogotá/Medellín. Build in more buffer time than feels necessary — group departures always take longer than expected.
Pacing notes for larger groups
Plan one full-group activity per day, maximum, and leave the rest optional. The itineraries that go smoothly are the ones where the whole group does Cocora together in the morning and then splits naturally in the afternoon — not the ones that try to keep 15 people on the same schedule for 72 hours straight.
